Self Advocacy Sydney's new program: Let's All Play
Let’s All Play – increasing the sports participation of young people with intellectual disability in West and South Western Sydney
Aimed at increasing the participation rates of young people with intellectual disability in sports (6 – 13 years of age)
Self Advocacy Sydney’s Let’s All Play project will build the capacity of sports clubs to engage participants with intellectual disability and to inform young people and their families of sports options. We will support 5 grassroots sports clubs in West and South Western Sydney to attract and coach young participants with intellectual disability and seek endorsement from 4 large national sporting clubs. We will gauge the impact of our project through measures such as growth in disability competency amongst sporting clubs staff, administrators and volunteers.
Our project’s sustainability will extend beyond grant funding by maintaining online resources for clubs and participants. We will also give ongoing support to sporting peer mentors with intellectual disability. We will research project impacts with the University of NSW and give our findings to all stakeholders
